Please note that all sales of Ohio Steel Dover Division have been suspended indefinetely because the new release of Ohio Steel 2 is coming soon.

Dover Divsion is the first release in a selection of routes to cover part of the steel producers in Ohio. Comprising of one long yard and 3 branchlines, Dover Divsion offers a versatility of exploration because each branchline is very different from the other. The first branchline which runs to Stone Creek is single mainline with a couple of passing sidings ending at Stone Creek Foundry. The second branchline, where most of your activity will be, is nearly all doubledtracked with some single mainline sections inbetween. The third branchline is hardly a branchline per se as in a way its more like an industrial spur except it services a steel mill.

It's not one of the bigger steel mills and in fact I would say it's one of the smaller ones you could ever find. Basically a small Open Hearth furnance with two Finishing Mills. However it has all the components of a larger mill. Even more fun is the Finishing Mills in the New Philadelphia area. If that's not enough the area is rich in some pretty large industries which means plenty of sceneario potential. And Dover Divsion comes with 15 standard scenarios as well as 3 freeroam scenarios giving you plenty of operations busywork.

The route itself is plenty big with about thirty miles of trackwork. Route speed is 40/35 in most places. Describing the route's characteristics I would call it mostly level in a very rich urban and farming environment. This region of Ohio is squarely part of the Alleghenny Mountains so expect hills and plenty of trees despite the flatness of the route. Grades are very mild as all the train running is nestled between the hills.

The Dover Divsion is fairly prototypical but bear in mind that most of the mills are mostly vacant lots at present. So what I did was recreate the mills from track plans and what was available through satellite imagery. And with that a bit of imagination is mixed in with that. The end result is a very playable route. It's not too long or too short, just right. Schematics by Don Hughes makes route running easier but I've also implemented my own features to reduce the amount of paperwork to run a route like this.

The past few months the All Aboard pages grew silent and I can only say it's because the Dover Division route required that much attention. Books like Steel Remembered (by Christopher J. Dawson), Steel Mill Railroads In Color (by Stephen M. Timke), The History, Making And Modeling Of Steel (by Dean Freytag) and Kalmbach's The Model Railroader's Guide To Steel Mills (by Bernard Kempinski) factored heavily in the research and inspiration for this steel mill based route and the expansions to come (already in progress).

Below are some of the scenes you'll be experiencing on the Dover Divsion. Be sure to check route requirements below.
